“O Jô Soares tem que saber disso para ver que não são apenas os vestibulandos que dizem asneiras, professores também dizem”.

Essa foi a reação de um estudante de um cursinho de Porto Velho após assistir à entrevista que o escritor e professor de Segundo Grau, Francisco Matias, deu ao médico e apresentador de TV no site Gente de Opinião, Viriato Moura, afirmando que a cidade de Porto Velho tem “má sorte” por ter esse nome.

A frase completa de Francisco Matias é: “Má sorte de Porto Velho é ter tido a má sorte de ter esse nome; é porque havia um porto velho (em sua origem)”. As declarações foram feitas durante o programa “Viva Porto Velho”, que o médico ortopedista e empresário hospitalar apresenta sob o patrocínio do hospital Central, de sua propriedade, na seção de TV do site “Gente de Opinião.”

Foram 20 minutos de desinformação e asneiras (e risco para os estudantes que não entenderem bem ou distorcerem o que foi falado tanto pelo professor Matias, e por alguns apartes do médico Viriato Moura, um deles dizendo que para uma informação oral ter valor ela tem que estar documentada.

Antes de Francisco Matias dizer que o nome desta cidade dá má sorte, ele e Viriato Moura falavam sobre as dificuldades existentes em Ronfônia quanto a sua memória histórica e discutiam sobre a validade da versão oral história e da falta de provas físicas de nossa memória (muitos documentos foram destruídos pela Ditadura Militar.)

A frase de Matias sobre o nome “porto velho” está ligada aos momentos da entrevista em que se falou sobre uma polêmica sobre a própria origem do nome da cidade e à existência do que Matias chamou de “mito lendário” do Velho Pimentel, “um velho que tinha um porto de lenha no local onde nasceu a cidade.”

Não há nenhum indício, a não ser uma única referência literária feita 50 anos após o nascimento da cidade, de que “o porto era do velho Pimentel”. Nunca apareceu alguém dizendo que o conheceu.

Mas, ele domina grande parte dos textos sobre a origem do nome da cidade por culpa de transcrições livres jamais corrigidas.

O que mais complica é que o nome “porto velho” tem duas ou três diferentes versões corretas (todas sem o Velho Pimentel) sobre o sítio onde surgiu Porto Velho depois, mas sem ligação direta com a fundação da cidade.

Nenhuma é tão verdadeira quanto ao fato de que, para os norte-americanos que vieram construir a ferrovia em 1907 eles escolheram o local por ser, para eles e na época, um “porto velho de lenha para navios.”

Um descampado não mais usado para a derrubada de árvores, onde o rio não tinha os perigos dos rochedos de Santo Antonio, tinha profundidade adequada e não tinha as doenças e a sujeira de Santo Antonio, que era usado antes.

Foi nesse porto velho, como começou a ser chamado, que os americanos definiram, em ato simbólico, fixando um grampo ferroviário de prata no primeiro dormente da ferrovia, em 4 de julho de 1907, o início das obras.

Acampamento que em três anos seria uma moderna cidade de 800 a 1.000 habitantes – como atestou o sanitarista Oswaldo Cruz.

Ao invés de causar “má sorte”, o Porto Velho que se transformou em cidade possibilitou a construção da ferrovia, e daqui partiram os meios para Oswaldo Cruz dirigir o Hospital da Candelária e reduzir o morticínio na linha férrea.

A palavra Porto Velho está ligada à conquista do Oeste brasileiro. Foi para ligar Porto Velho a rede telegráfica nacional, que Rondon abriu a picada do sudeste a leste do Estado e semeou cidades ao longo do caminho. Desde a distante Vilhena, a Ji-Paraná, a Ariquemes e as novas cidades do Estado, tudo começou com Porto Velho.

Outra asneira de Francisco Matias foi a de dizer que a ferrovia nunca foi boliviana. Foi concebida pelos bolivianos, financiada inicialmente por eles, até a falência da firma inglesa Public Works que tentou iniciar sua construção.

Prosseguiu numa parceria Brasil-Bolívia através dos empreiteiros americanos da P & T Collins e continuou depois através do Tratado de Petrópolis, que embora tenha sido cumprido em parte (por culpa dos brasileiros) ainda não foi revogado. E ainda é brasileira-boliviana até hoje.

Ainda bem que o compañero Evo Morales é condescendente. Pelo Tratado de Petrópolis, os bolivianos poderiam perfeitamente chegar de repente ao pátio da Madeira-Mamoré e exigir para verificar como está o andamento das obras. E avisar que é bom que tudo esteja indo bem, ou eles tomam o Acre de volta.

Para encerrar, os Estados Unidos não tinham a menor intenção de ocupar esta parte da Amazônia quando foram atraídos pela propaganda do tenente-coronel George Earl Church a trabalhar na construção da Estrada de Ferro Madeira – uma outra asneira ouvida no programa,

Recém-saídos da Guerra da Secessão, em plena recessão econômica, desempregados, os americanos vieram para cá com a mesma credulidade, boa fé e esperança com que os desempregados do Brasil inteiro estão vindo para Porto Velho acreditando nos empregos “nazusinas” hidrelétricas do rio Madeira.

Mas, aí, no nosso caso, quem dá má sorte não é Porto Velho, é a enganação da mistura PAC-Dllma-Lula que está por trás de tudo.

City of Porto Velho is bad luck to have that name," says the writer of handouts for students in test selection

"The Jô Soares (talk show of TV Globo) has known it to see that not only are the candidates who say stupid things, teachers also say."

That was the reaction of a student of a preparatory course of Porto Velho after watching the interview that the writer and teacher of high school, Matias Francisco, gave the doctor and TV host site People of Opinion, Viriato Moura, saying the city of Porto Velho has "bad luck" for having that name.

The full phrase Francisco Matias is: "Bad luck of Porto Velho is having the bad luck to have that name because there is an old port (in origin)." The statements were made during the program "Viva Porto Velho", the orthopedic doctor and businessman hospital shows sponsored by the Central hospital of its property in the TV section of the site "People of Opinion."
